Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy

Introduction from the Managing Director

Modern Slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes a number of forms including slavery, servitude, compulsory labour and human trafficking for exploitation. It can have a devastating effect on individuals and families across the world.
We are committed to improving our practices so that we can seek to combat slavery. Our staff are expected to report concerns and our management are expected to act upon such concerns.  We all have a responsibility to be alert to the risks, however small, in our business and in our wider supply chain.

Our structure

We are a supplier of pet products to retailers. Bob Martin (UK) Ltd has subsidiaries which provide similar services in Europe. Bob Martin (UK) Ltd is based in the UK and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Martin and Martin Holdings, also a UK company.

Our supply chains

Our supply chains enable us to source finished products and raw materials principally related to the provision of pet products.

Our policies on slavery and human trafficking

We are committed to ensuring that we implement and enforce effective systems to seek to ensure that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our organisation. Our approach to doing business reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our commercial relationships.

Due diligence processes for slavery and human trafficking

As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk we have in place systems to:
- identify and assess potential risk areas in our supply chain;
- mitigate the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in our supply chains;
- monitor potential risk areas in our supply chains; and
- protect whistle blowers.
Examples of this include:
  • Our EU-based management team regularly visit all our larger suppliers. Such visits involve an inspection of manufacturing facilities.
  • Where possible, we build long-term relationships with both local and distant suppliers.
  • Significant or high risk new suppliers are subject to an independent audit which covers issues relating to forced labour and unethical practices.
  • Existing suppliers are subject to unannounced, independent audits.

Supplier adherence to our values

We have a zero tolerance policy towards slavery and human trafficking. We are committed as an organisation to tackling modern slavery and human trafficking and we want to work with suppliers who share our values.

Training

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide clear instructions to relevant members of staff. All of our Directors have been briefed on the subject.
In the current year we aim to:
Review supplier terms and conditions to reflect what we have learned so far, review and where necessary update our procurement processes.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our group’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the current financial year.
