Optimmune: Notes from our vet
If your dog is suffering from trouble with their eyes then they could have a disease called Dry Eye. This is caused by a problem with your pet’s immune system which stops tears being produced. Tears are needed to keep dog’s eyes moist and healthy.
Dry Eye is very common in some breeds of dog especially West Highland White Terriers, Yorkshire Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels and Bulldogs.
Lack of tears causes a thick yellow discharge to develop on a dog’s eye which often builds up round the eye lids and can make them stick together. In severe cases ulcers can develop on the surface of the eye. These are very painful and can lead to blindness if left untreated.
Treatment of Dry Eye involves using false tear drops or ointment to lubricate the eye to help reduce the discharge and make it more comfortable. However this is generally not enough to change the condition.
Optimmune works to try and stop the problems with your dog’s immune system so that the eye starts to produce its own tears again. Usually a small amount of ointment is put into your dog’s eyes twice a day.
Most dogs with Dry Eye will need to have treatment for life as it’s rare that the disease will be cured. However by continuing to give them Optimmune ointment you should see your dog’s eye problems begin to get much better.

Our local Morrisons & Tesco stores didn't have any of the Bob Martin litter tray liners that we always use so we ordered them online.
The price was very good which included free postage & they arrived the next day.
We'll buy them from Bob Martin direct in the future.
